About GovPin
A crowdsourced civic transparency platform for tracking US government vehicles.
Our Mission
GovPin makes government vehicle activity visible and accountable to the public through open-source intelligence collection. Every tax-funded fleet vehicle is a public asset. Citizens have a right to know where those assets go.
How It Works
Photograph
Spot a government vehicle and photograph its plate, tail number, or hull ID.
Submit
Upload your photo. GovPin's OCR pipeline reads the identifier and cross-references agency databases.
Track
Every sighting appears on the live map. Search by plate, agency, or location.
Data Sources
- Citizen-submitted sightings with photo evidence
- ADS-B flight data for aircraft verification
- AIS marine traffic data for vessel verification
- GSA fleet plate prefix database for agency identification
- FAA aircraft registry for tail number lookup
Privacy
GovPin automatically strips all EXIF metadata β including GPS coordinates β from every uploaded photo before storage. We do not store submitter location data. Plate numbers and agency identifiers are public information by nature.
Legal
Photographing vehicles in public spaces is legal in the United States under the First Amendment. Government license plates are public records. GovPin collects only information that is already publicly visible.
